The 5 Questions Your Bank Account Can't Answer

Not data collection: the load-bearing structure behind every number Clarity shows you.

Hey there,

Before Clarity shows you a single chart, it asks you five questions. Not because we're nosy, but because every other number the app ever shows you is built on top of these five answers. And here's the thing: you don't need Clarity open to benefit from them. They're worth asking yourself cold, on paper, this week.

The Self-Audit

01

What do you sell?

Not "retail" or "services," but specifically. Most owners can answer this in one word. Fewer can say which product or channel actually drives the number, versus which one just feels busy. That gap is usually where the real margin is hiding.

02

What does it cost to keep the doors open?

Rent, insurance, subscriptions, the loan payment: the bills that show up whether you sell $0 or $10,000 this month. Most owners know this number exists. Far fewer know it cold, off the top of their head. If you had to guess yours right now, would you trust it?

03

Do you have staff?

Payroll is usually the single largest cost most owners underestimate, and not just wages, but taxes, insurance, the hours spent managing it. If the honest answer is "kind of, sometimes," that's worth sitting with. It's usually bigger than it feels.

04

What are you trying to achieve?

Growing fast, staying steady, or getting ready to sell the business someday: these aren't the same goal, and they don't call for the same numbers. You can't tell if a number is good news without knowing which game you're playing.

05

How do you actually want to see your numbers?

Some owners want the full breakdown. Some just want to know one thing: did I make money this week? Neither is wrong, but a lot of owners give up on tracking, not because it's too hard, but because the format never fit how they think.

That's it. That's the whole audit. No app required, just five honest answers, ideally written down somewhere, not just in your head.

If you want a place that actually holds onto those answers and builds everything else on top of them, that's what Clarity's onboarding does on day one: five minutes, and then it's the foundation for everything else the app shows you.
